8 Poker Lessons

Lesson # 1 Learning Poker will take time

First of all, set your mind that winning at the poker table will not happen over night. There are things that a poker player must learn and understand.

An aspiring poker player can be a professional poker player only through time and experience, not to mention through many bets.

Your first goal is just to be good enough that you know the rules and you know how to play poker. Beating a hand should follow next and becoming a professional poker player is the last thing to dream about.

Being a professional poker player will require all your time and effort. You should devote all your time to playing this game. If you have a 9 to 5 day job then we suggest that you forget about your ambition of becoming a professional poker player.

Lesson # 2 Know what you want to achieve

After you have accepted the fact that it will take time to be a professional poker player, the next step that you must do is to determine what you want to achieve.

Where you want to go after learning how to play poker? This means that you are simply setting your goal. Do you want to win at poker games, tournaments, or what?

Let us put it this way, your first goal is simple and that is to win more pots at poker games.

Lesson # 3 Study Poker

After setting your goal, the next step is to study poker. Learn the whole concept of the game. You do not have to read all 3000 pages of a poker book to win at a poker game. Just learn the game and apply a few strategies to win a few dollars.

Learning poker is not simple unless you play it, so while you are learning the game you can begin playing it as well. On the way, you will lose and eventually you will win also.

While playing poker you will learn the best experience and the best knowledge of all.

Lesson # 4 Creating your own bankroll

Setting your own bankroll can help you achieve your goal. Remember that your goal is to win more pots. Your bankroll will determine if you are winning and if you need a break from betting.

Lesson # 5 Discipline

A successful gambler is always a good disciplinarian. If you are disciplined enough then you will be a successful gambler in poker.

In everything that you do discipline is always an important factor in order to succeed.

Lesson # 6 Have Fun

Poker is such a fun game, so do not forget to have fun while you are playing poker. You may lose at times and there are times that you will win, it doesn't matter at the end of the day as long as you had fun while playing.

Lesson # 7 Amend your learning

Even if you are playing poker your learning about the game should never stop from there. Your knowledge of the game should carry on. Everyday from your poker life you should learn something from it. Never neglect an opportunity that you will learn just from playing poker alone.

Lesson # 8 Closing

In poker you will experience bad beats, downswings and frustration during the game. We suggest that you should be prepared in whatever may happen.

Before you play poker you should be well prepared, prepare your mind and prepare your pocket. Every game has its own downside. You will not win all the time, in fact there are times where you will lose most of the time.

If you get frustrated in playing poker, we suggest that you take a break. Leave the table and relax your mind. Do not force yourself to try to win back everything that you lose. Maybe this is not your time, but do not be frustrated for there is always next time.
