Avoiding the Poker Tilt
Eventually, there will come a time when you will experience what Poker players call the tilt. It is something that happens to nearly everyone, and knowing how to avoid it will help increase your staying power.
The Poker tilt simply means that you have reached a stage wherein you cannot play good Poker anymore. As stated, it is something that everyone will undergo sooner or later, but by knowing the symptoms you will be able to lessen the effects.
For instance, it is important that during the course of a Poker game, you should always assess your physical state. Are you physically tired? Although it is primarily a mental game, sitting on the Poker table for hours, strategizing and analyzing your opponents, can take its toll.
As the game takes its physical toll on you, it will eventually hamper you mentally as well. You know that Poker strategies involve not just analyzing players but also making calculations and pot odds, and as you become tired, physically and mentally, you will make mistakes and lapses that will cost you the hand.
You should be taking a break now, because as the Poker tilt takes its toll, you will start to lose, and this will make you more emotional. Once you let your emotions overtake you, you will have a very hard time playing Poker objectively.
Instead of focusing on the game, you will instead try to get revenge for the previous losses, and you end up in a losing hand far longer than you should be.
As you can see, Poker tilt can have an adverse effect on players and their bankroll, but it is something that you can avoid. Always make sure that you take a break from the table every now and then. If you are feeling tired, or starting to feel frustrated following several losses, then get up and stretch.
If you are online, just stop playing for a while. Clear your head, and come back after a while. You might want to try a new Poker table, or go over your strategies again. Go over your bankroll; have you lost too much already? Always keep an eye on the bankroll to help you decide if you should keep going or call it a night.
Losing is something that cannot be avoided, but playing when you know you are on the Poker tilt will only worsen the situation. By understanding its symptoms and signs, then you will be able to keep your losses to a bare minimum.
